“waiting, simplification, remembering”

“waiting, simplification, remembering”, performance, fine arts prints 150*210, Patara&Simena/Turkey, 2014-continue

“waiting, simplification, remembering” is one branch of “the space is enough for all of us” that focus on instead of mega-structure in Istanbul to Simena Castel&Patara Ancient City.

The performance started on August 2014 and still continue. Every summer, I have been visited to Patara Ancient City and worked there from the opening hours to closing time- nearly eight hours and 38-40 degrees Celsius- for seven days. Performance is recorded by photos, videos and diary of the performance. Some stories and poems that I write under the performance process and sketces that I draw take part of the diary of the performance. Other things in the diary are my observation and researches about the visitors in the ancient city and history of the Patara.
*Patara, an ancient Lycian harbor city, can be dated back to the 8th century B.C. It is said that the city was founded by Patarus, a son of Apollo. Patara, the capital of the ancient Lycian civilization, is getting more and more global recognition with Turkey’s declaration of 2020 as the year of Patara.
For my performance I prefer many kinds of spaces such as public, abandoned, ancient cities that affect to our archetypal mind. I can define all these places as invisible libraries. It has knowledge that come from archetypes and polytheistic. I have brought this information together without polarizing the eastern and western schools for understanding how the spaces are afferected by socio cultural situation or how socio cultural situation is affected by spaces.
All photographies and vidoes is taken by me.

“the space is enough for all of us” is a photoperformance series focus on bodies and places producing each other, meaning and designing with each other. Possibility of the existence of different types of spaces, bodies and perceptions are investigated with using the archaeological scrapings in my memory. Areas have been identified where mega-structure in Istanbul like as Energy Museum, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Rumelifeneri Castle, Büyükada Greekk Orthodox Orphanage, Stoudios Monastery, …
