Body always remembers!

People are passing from hard times because of COVID19. Getting stuck, despair, not bidding farewells, longings due to distances and mood of waiting in houses in private with so many emotions. Here in these moments, individual sees the chance to look him/herself even more closely. A lot of things that keeps away from him/herself stayed outside.  On the other hand human being creates a community awareness over digital networks, by closing him/herself to home. As a performance artist, I would like to invite to everyone for creating together. In such days, everyone should do whatever he or she can, and what I can do is to create a collective memoir upon body, arising from my working process related to our forms of perception and reparation. “The body always remembers!” is a performance to take a closer look at our body, to trace its reminders and turn them into stories. I am the initiator for this performance, but if you want to be part of a memoir that we carry on together, please keep reading (or click on to vimeo link).

Our needs :  a road map to start, place that you feel most comfortable at your home, focusing on your body at least 15 minutes ( put your phones in airplane mode if possible), pen and paper for handwriting, a glass of water.

Road map

We go to the most comfortable place at our home.

Sit to the floor (One having difficulty, can prefer chair etc.).

We make sure that pen and paper for handwriting is with us.

We also check if the glass of water is with us, which we’ll need after the process.

Now, let’s le on the floor and shut our eyes.

We remind our body to slow down, on the contrary to daily life, that it is forced to accelerate.

Every one of us have our own unique time zones but try to stay lying on the floor after a period that you countdown to 300, if it’s possible.

We open our eyes and look at our body from where we lie down.

We slowly come to sitting position at the floor as we feel ready to straighten up.

Let our hands move towards the area of our body that they will tell us. For some of us this may be a scar from childhood days or ankles that have been whining nowadays.

If we reach that part in our body, we slowly get close there and start to listen what it tells. There can be various narratives. In this case, we are just a good listener. Let us remind ourselves.

We thank our body for sharing with us and slowly drink our water, after our stories finished. Remember that water is life and we are drinking life.

We take pen and paper and start to write what our body told us, after we drink our water.

We shot or record that part of our body.

We lie down to the floor again, close our eyes and be grateful to life after our process is finished.

One final word;

Our body is like a memory magnet

It loops everything

And wears the life on

And it takes us home where we belong

Home is safe

Home is full of hope

Home is the childhood

Home is love

Home is us…

We can share our process with #bodyalwaysremembers  #quarantineart  #performanceart and with yours #
